Things you should quit saying:
- “I don’t even see color. It doesn’t matter to me whether you’re white, black, brown, red, yellow, or purple.”
- “You’re thinking way too hard about it. It’s just a joke/word/costume/movie/etc!”
- “You’re the one talking about race. That makes you the racist one.”
- “I refuse to feel guilty for what my ancestors did!”
- “I’m not racist; I have a [insert ethnicity] friend/lover/whatever and they’re not bothered by this.”
None of these sentences say anything good about you, I promise.
I’d like to add:
- Why can’t you just feel honoured by this?
- You’re just looking for things to be offended by.
