I hadn’t heard about this show or seen the debate around it so I just searched on Tumblr for “Lucy Liu,” which was of course a huge mistake, since the results were about 3% “Did you know Lucy Liu is in the new Sherlock Holmes show” and 97% “Did you know Lucy Liu WAS TOTALLY NAKED THIS ONE TIME TEN YEARS AGO LOOK AT THESE PICS BRO”

It went something like “Watson can’t be a woman!” *fans provide links to other versions where Watson is a woman “This erases the homoerotic subtext!” *fans point out that Holmes was attracted to women (or at least Irene Adler) & that Watson was married* “Watson being a woman is wrong because I say it is & doesn’t fit the mythos!” *fans point to previous productions that also changed things including the current Sherlock* “I am rage quitting & here are some racist & sexist things I want to say!” *fans eyeroll & point out that bigotry isn’t a good objection* Wash, rinse, repeat through 845437573745860779 conversations.
