Definition of Racism:
- : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
- : racial prejudice or discrimination
- There is no 3
fun fact: there’s already a word for “power + prejudice”
Cosigned. “Lets invent our own definition for words and then refuse to understand people that use them as their real definition”
I agree with this, we’ve already have a word for power+prejudices.
Racism means you are prejudice against someone BECAUSE of their race.
The only people who have any kind of power in America are the corporate and government, not your common folk, people…
Why is this nonsense popping up on my dash?
It is too late for this crap.
If you don’t understand critical race theory, educate yourself. The dictionary is not the end-all of everything, especially because it was created by white men and is not a scientific document.
Except that racism has existed since the beginning of man. It existed before the “white dictionary.” It’s even documented in things (not written by white men) thousands of years before the modern dictionary. So, not’s not a white man thing. It’s not a white person thing. It’s a human thing.
Before you come with your ill-educated opinions, study critical race theory. Racism has existed beyond white men, however, it’s not just xenophobia - there’s a systematic discrimination and dehumanization of the groups that are not in power. That’s what separates racism from racial prejudice.
Seriously, this is shit you can google.
The reason I bring up white man’s dictionary is simple - white men are in power. When you have the power, especially the power of definition, you have the power to do a lot of things - including muddle and change how things are viewed from what they objectively can be seen as. Just because it’s in a dictionary does not mean that’s what it objectively is, and stripping the meaning of a system of oppression only serves to further that oppression.
It’s really not that hard of a concept. You might want to try google to educate you.
Oh, no, I do know that people in power have the power to change whatever the hell they want. Usually the rich. The conservative. The middle-aged. The straight. The cis.
None of which actually describe me. But racism does work on all accounts. Everyone is capable of being racist. The racism = power + prejudice is a crutch. It’s an excuse for people to say that they aren’t racist. When they are. That’s what SJWs tend to do - they think they have every right to get away with phrases like ‘white tears,’ and ‘go cry whitey,’ and ‘die cis scum’ and so on, so forth, and NOT get called out about it. Sure, those phrases are nothing compared to the history of oppression of…
But being hateful is not the way to fight. People don’t react positively to hate no matter what you wanna call it: bigotry, prejudice, discrimination, racism. And they never will.
I like how you conveniently skip pass a huge group in that list - the white. That’s a pretty big one, especially considering there are entire fields of science dedicated to studying how white Western culture has effected the world. ENTIRE FIELDS OF STUDY. And guess what? Consensus is: white man likes to fuck shit up for everyone else.
And no, we’re not just talking about in historical context. We’re talking about modern day. If you can’t understand and even bother to look up racism or privilege or any of the concepts you instantly deem as “SJW”, then you aren’t worth the discussion or the effort. Because no matter what I say, you wont try to learn. It challenges your whiteness too much.
And no, that’s not an ad hominem. That is literally what I’ve seen with every white person who even tries to touch this topic.
So how about instead of going on your white rants, or calling on your token black friend, you educate yourself. As was said, a million of times.
I don’t have the time to educate you, and you couldn’t afford the tuition in the first place.
But please, by all means, if you want to continue in your white bubble like all is hunky-dory with the world and racism is what you say it is, that’s kinda of your privilege. You’re able to do that with little to no repercussions to you. Can’t really say the same about those of us who are told the to hate our bodies because they don’t meet Eurocentric standards. Those who have to worry about whether the cops are going to shoot them or help them when they call. Those who constantly have to wonder if nearly every interaction they have with law enforcement, or even just other humans, is racially motivated because that’s what their own personal experience tells them. That’s all just nonsense to you anyway, right?
Nope, it’s all about you being able to “feel the effects of racism” when someone says something about you that you don’t like. How dare those people challenge your whiteness and you not be able to act against it anymore. How dare they. That’s racist and it hurts your feefees.
And there have been entire studies devoted to trying to prove religion and that man walked with dinosaurs. Please. Just because there’s been a study on it, doesn’t make it fact.
However, yes, I do know that having pale skin does give one certain privilege. But it’s not solely pale skin. Because caucasian describes quite a few people who are oppressed. In American society, you could have pale skin and be male and straight and still suffer from even your definition of racism. And yes, I am going to go against SJWs on tumblr, because they are some of the nuttiest, most narrow-minded folk in the Western world.
And no, it has little to do with my skin colour. And no I’m not picture perfect and pretty and omg, everyone worships me and puts me on a pedestal.
I call out racism when it exists, no matter who is saying it. No one has any right over any other human being, idealistically. No, I am not denying what systems have done, or what happens in America, Canada, and the U.K. No, I am not saying minorities shouldn’t fight for their rights or that people shouldn’t be educated on the fact that women, gays, people of various ethnic minorities, trans*/genderqueer, people who are not thin, people who are not pretty, people who are disabled… I’m not saying that my suffering, at least in aspects to those things, is anything compared to what they have suffered.
I am saying that no one has a right to be racist. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve been through. You do not fight hatred with hatred. You do not assume that every white man is a big bad devil. You do not assume that a black guy is going to rape you. You do not assume that the football jocks are going to make fun of you because you have a large amount of fat on your body. You do not act on a hatred that you have not earned. If some treats you with respect, you treat them with respect. If someone is a jackass to you, then you figure out a way to deal with it.
But you do not lump half the world together and claim that every single person is ignorant because of oppression. That’s just wrong and backwards thinking. There’s nothing progressive about that whatsoever.
Also, assuming that because someone is white means they have privilege is rather stupid, too. My girlfriend is incredibly pale, but she’s PoC. And Arab. And gets more hate than the black man in America these days. There are mixed ethnicties. There are people with pale skin who suffer from prejudice and oppression.
The world isn’t divided into PoC and white. It’s divided in ways that scientists and anthropologists and sociologists have been fighting over for centuries. And those lines that are created are the ones that will continue to divide us.
And no, that’s not erasing history. I’m not going against history. I’m not advocating for those shitty textbooks used in American schools that ignore the Trail of Tears and Manifest Destiny and portray Abe Lincoln to be some sort of white hero. I’m not advocating that the textbooks in Saudi Arabia should continue to teach children that writing with your left hand is a sign of the devil and that decapitating a 13 year old girl for killing her abusive 40 year old husband, someone she was forced to marry because of the extremist culture.
I’m advocating equality. And that’s what every PoC I’ve met wants. Every woman. Every gay man. Every person on the fucking planet wants equality except those in power. And those in power are the ones who write the history. And that’s not me. That’s not my family. That’s not the majority of America. Or the majority of the earthly population in general.
There’s even a great post, written by a PoC actually, on tumblr, that clearly states that no PoC wants to be MORE THAN anyone else. They just want to be EQUAL.
And anyone who disagrees with that… is clearly a racist. A bigot. An asshat, for lack of better term.
But you’re not going to get any equality if you assume every white person around you is a bigoted jackass. And that their ancestors oppressed yours. I’m first-gen American. My ancestors oppressed other white people. I had nothing to do with the system in America. So being a fucking idiot and acting like a child to those who are advocating for equality… is backwards.
Just like that definition of racism. That definition of racism does not make PoC equal. It says they can do whatever the fuck they want and not get called out on it. It encourages racist ideals and bigotry. It encourages hatred. It encourages further separation between the races.
And yes. That’s backwards. Sorry if you disagree. But I’ve seen both definitions in action and one works. And the other doesn’t. And the one you claim was written by the white man (which it wasn’t, it predates the modern dictionary) is the one that binds all humans in an equal contract.
Those who abuse that contract are the racists. Not those who abide by it.
HAVE I MENTIONED YOU’RE MY NEW FAVORITE PERSON???
Because you so totally are, after that post. Well done. Really well done. I’ve been trying to get this point across in various ways since I discovered the social justice brigade, and you’ve just completely blown me out of the water. You’ve said everything I wanted to say and more, plus a cherry on top.
Yes, I don’t need their Malcolm X Racism. I’ll stick with Martin Luther King. If you want to know about racism, study the King, not the Racist people of Critical Race Theory!
lulz if you think martin and malcolm were diametrically opposed to each other.
The fact that they don’t know about anything before Malcolm X & Martin Luther King Jr, much less about their actual positions says so much. This is why I don’t listen to white people when they want to talk to me about racism, unless they can prove they actually know more than what lands on posters every February.
