Reagan pulled this same move with his Welfare Queen lie. Anyone dumb enough to fall for it twice…

JP Morgan is the largest processor of food stamp benefits in the United States.  JP Morgan has contracted to provide food stamp debit cards in 26 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.  JP Morgan is paid for each case that it handles, so that means that the more Americans that go on food stamps, the more profits JP Morgan makes.  Yes, you read that correctly.  When the number of Americans on food stamps goes up, JP Morgan makes more money.  In the video posted below, JP Morgan executive Christopher Paton admits that this is “a very important business to JP Morgan” and that it is doing very well.  Considering the fact that the number of Americans on food stamps has exploded from 26 million in 2007 to 43 million today, one can only imagine how much JP Morgan’s profits in this area have soared.  But doesn’t this give JP Morgan an incentive to keep the number of Americans enrolled in the food stamp program as high as possible?

We were talking about poverty being profitable. When you get paid for every time you handle a food stamp case and the amount of people who are on food stamps has risen from a recession/depression, which was caused in part by the same institution raking in money off of food stamps, that is the epitome of cashing in on poverty.

When pull of you D&G sun glasses and place them on the top of your head. When you pull up your VS Pink sweatpants and fix your Uggs. When you have a Coach or Luis Vuitton bag that is hanging from your arm. When you tee shirt says Armani…

See, things like this is when my mother in me comes out. Cause all I can think — right or no — is yeah I’m the welfare queen but you the bitch that works for the welfare queen right now. Plastic and curbside service, please, thank you.

I’m saying, how are you going to catch a attitude with a customer about how they pay? Long as they’re paying you have a job.

This. So much. When I worked at a grocery store, this always pissed me off. Hell. I just posted about it. I’m sorry but if you can afford all that brand shit then you can afford to buy your own food. Now. I understand some people need EBT. But more often than not, the people that came into my line were working the system.

Having been the well dressed person with food stamps? No working the system or fraud was required. Before my divorce I had nice things courtesy of being a two income household. Even then, I shopped at TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, & Filene’s Basement because I liked nice things, but I didn’t like high prices. My ex cheated on me & beat me up so I filed for divorce & moved into my own apartment with my son. I lost my job, so I finally used my GI Bill to go to college. Single parenting while a full time student isn’t easy. When my ex stopped paying child support I moved into a cheap apartment in the projects, & I applied for assistance. My son has food allergies, so I continued buying the specific things that he can eat. They’re more expensive than average, but I wasn’t going to risk his health for someone else’s sensibilities. You don’t know our stories from what you see at the register. Don’t pretend you do, just because it makes you feel better about being a bigot.

god all the classist shit (and thinly veiled racism) in this fucking shitty blog today

When I walk up to the register in the nice shoes I got for my birthday. When you see my fly-ass bag I picked up at the thrift store hanging from my arm. When you see me push up the nice sunglasses onto my head that I got while I had a good job, before they laid me off. When you see me adjust the t-shirt I splurged on for myself with fun money, because who doesn’t buy nice things for themselves occasionally when life is so shit. Then when you make a snide face I as hand you my food stamps card from a wallet given to me as a gift from a good friend.

I AM JUDGING YOUR BASELESS, ROOTED IN THE “WELFARE QUEEN” MYTH, CLASSIST, PROBABLY RACIST, UGLY-ASS THOUGHTLESS ASSUMPTIONS.

You are what is wrong with this world.

-A former grocery store cashier for years that doesn’t want your ridiculous ass speaking for her

p.s. i guess we should tell everyone with foodstamps that they have to “look poor” or else they’re clearly cheaters, amirite?

Way to go, poop. I hate this shit. And it seems like everybody has one of these stories that totes justifies their ignorant behavior.

stfuconservatives:

Still think people on food stamps have it too good? Chef Karl Wilder is trying to feed his family on the budget equivalent of what they would receive on food stamps. He’s been documenting his meals on his blog as part of an awareness campaign for the San Francisco Food Bank.

He just finished his two months on a food stamp budget, and he says, “I admit to being bored by it. I am sick of many of the foods that work in this budget. I am ready for it to be over.” He went to the doctor and found that although he’d lost weight, his body fat percentage went up, and his blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels were all higher.

Still think poor people have it made on food stamps?

The only ways to eat well on a food stamp budget are to a) to sacrifice some of your cash to supplement your purchases, b) have a thriving garden, or c) very generous friends. How many times do we have to have people do this experiment before we admit that the formula for the amount awarded is incredibly flawed & doesn’t take into account the range of food prices in this country, access (or lack thereof) to full fledged grocery stores, potential storage restrictions, dietary needs, or ability levels? I mean really, can we move on to discussing those issues instead of yet another “Eating well when you’re poor is hard” project?
